Papua — In the heart of Papua’s remote highlands, drg. Lim Me Ty, MKM, Sp.PM has carved her legacy not just as a dental specialist, but as a beacon of hope and integrity in public healthcare. Her journey from an ambitious nine-year-old with a dream, to a director transforming RSUD Oksibil, is deeply rooted in a calling greater than herself.
“I didn’t just want to be a doctor. I felt led to be one,” she says. Born without a family background in medicine, her discipline and devotion led her through rigorous education at Universitas Trisakti and Universitas Indonesia. But it was her spiritual experience in 2007 that pushed her to leave city comforts and head deep into Papua’s uncharted territories.
She started in Genyem, Jayapura, then accepted a civil service post in Pegunungan Bintang in 2009. From witnessing RSUD Oksibil’s inauguration in 2011 to its accreditation as a four-star facility in 2023, drg. Lim Me Ty’s impact is both measurable and heartening. Despite initial resistance from her family and the daunting logistics of travel into Oksibil, her determination never wavered.
Navigating challenges including intimidation, misinformation, and stalled accreditation processes, she turned adversity into advocacy. “Success is when preparation meets opportunity,” she shares. That preparation included advanced degrees, unflinching resilience, and a moral compass led by faith.
Her leadership has helped the hospital evolve—not just in service quality, but in community trust. She emphasizes integrity, patient safety, and mutual cooperation among staff and stakeholders. Under her guidance, RSUD Oksibil has expanded collaboration with TNI, Polri, BUMD, and other regional offices.
drg. Lim Me Ty’s vision extends beyond infrastructure. In 2024, she is championing the hospital’s transition to a Type C facility and adopting BLUD status for financial autonomy. “We aim to offer equal healthcare, whether in Jakarta or Oksibil,” she says, hopeful about government support under the new national agenda.
Yet her drive isn’t about accolades. It’s about purpose. “I don’t want to live an ordinary life,” she says. Her spirituality, timeless mindset, and unshakable sense of duty shape a leadership model worth emulating.
For young leaders, especially Gen-Z, she offers this: “Find your values before the world tells you who to be. Discipline and clarity will help you thrive—not just survive.” Her story, at once deeply personal and powerfully communal, is a timely reminder: greatness begins where purpose meets perseverance.
