Exeter — The BBC Make a Difference Awards 2025 brought together community champions from across Devon in a heartfelt ceremony at Woodbury Park Hotel. Now in its fourth year, the awards shine a spotlight on individuals and organizations that go above and beyond to support others and strengthen local communities.

This year introduced two new categories — Active Award and Young Hero Award — reflecting the evolving ways people contribute to society. Among the standout winners:

  • Abigail Daly (Plymouth) — Winner of the Great Neighbour Award, recognized for supporting fellow students with learning disabilities.
  • Jade Allen — Honored with the Fundraiser Award for her tireless efforts in mobilizing resources for local causes.
  • Healthscape Swim Club — Celebrated for its role in promoting wellbeing through cold‑water swimming.
  • Therapy Dog Teams — Acknowledged for providing comfort and emotional support in schools and care homes.

In total, 32 finalists across eight categories were recognized, underscoring the diversity of contributions — from grassroots initiatives to personal acts of kindness.

Organizers emphasized that the awards are not just about recognition, but about inspiring others to act. By celebrating these local heroes, the BBC aims to highlight the power of community spirit in addressing social challenges.

The 2025 edition reaffirmed that even small acts of compassion can ripple outward, creating meaningful change across Devon and beyond.
