DRDO Named Changemaker of the Year 2025 at BusinessLine Changemaker Awards

Mumbai — The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has been awarded Changemaker of the Year 2025 at the BusinessLine Changemaker Awards, held in Mumbai. The recognition highlights DRDO’s pivotal role in advancing indigenous strategic technologies and strengthening India’s defense capabilities.

The award was received by Raja Babu Ummalaneni, Director General of DRDO’s Missiles & Strategic Systems, who was honored for his leadership in driving innovation and operational success. DRDO’s contributions during Operation Sindoor, where it played a decisive role in neutralizing enemy assets and securing India’s borders, were specifically cited as a milestone achievement.

Alongside DRDO, the Azim Premji Foundation was recognized as Iconic Changemaker of the Year for its extensive work in education and healthcare, underscoring the dual pillars of India’s development: cutting‑edge technology and sustained social impact.

The BusinessLine Changemaker Awards, now in their seventh edition, celebrate individuals and institutions that have made transformative contributions to society. This year’s theme emphasized innovation, enterprise, and inclusive growth, with DRDO’s recognition symbolizing the importance of indigenous production and technological self‑reliance.

Industry observers note that DRDO’s award is not only a recognition of past achievements but also a call to sustain momentum in defense innovation. By investing in research, fostering collaborations, and prioritizing self‑reliance, DRDO continues to shape India’s strategic future.
