Sragen, Central Java Born into a family of teachers in Sragen, little Ahmad Zaky already showed an interest in technology. Since elementary school, he has been familiar with computers and started learning programming.
Zaky’s dream to build a digital platform that benefits the community was realized with the birth of Bukalapak in 2010. Starting from the lack of opportunities for small entrepreneurs in his hometown, Zaky and his partner, Nugroho Herucahyono, built an online platform that allows SMEs to market their products widely.
A Challenging Early Journey
Bukalapak’s journey was not always smooth. At the beginning of its launch, the platform didn’t get many hits. Zaky and his team had their doubts, but their strong determination to realize the company’s vision and mission kept them going.
Bukalapak’s Rise and Golden Age
Over time, Zaky’s and his team’s hard work began to pay off. Bukalapak started to get funding injections from investors, such as Batavia Incubator, GREE Ventures, Aucfan, IREP, 500 Startups, GREE Ventures, and EMTEK. The platform grew rapidly and became one of the largest e-commerce sites in Indonesia, with 4 million SMEs.
