Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali, has been named one of Asia’s best cities in 2025 by Travel and Leisure, earning the 7th spot on a prestigious list that celebrates excellence in hospitality, culture, and lifestyle. This recognition affirms Ubud’s enduring charm as a destination where tradition and tranquility meet.

Released on July 8, 2025, the annual list highlights 15 cities across nine countries. Each city was selected for its friendliness, cleanliness, culinary richness, and the quality of public transportation. Ubud stands proudly as Indonesia’s sole entry, showcasing the nation’s ability to compete with Asia’s finest.

At the top of the ranking is Chiang Mai, Thailand, which scored 91.94 for its orderly environment, cultural depth, and vibrant traditions. Known as the largest city in Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai continues to attract global travelers with its ancient temples, bustling handicraft scene, and culinary icons like mango sticky rice and khaoi shoi.

Ubud, meanwhile, achieved an impressive score of 90.48. Although officially a sub-district within Gianyar Regency, it is globally recognized as Bali’s cultural soul. From lush rice terraces and tropical forests to its unique atmosphere of meditation and yoga retreats, Ubud has become a sanctuary for travelers seeking inspiration and peace.

The ideal time to visit Ubud is during the dry season, from April to October. The months of July and August bring an added vibrancy, with art exhibitions and music festivals drawing international crowds. For those seeking serenity, April, May, and September are perfect months to enjoy Ubud’s calmer rhythm.

Beyond its natural and cultural wealth, Ubud’s inclusion in this global ranking reflects the resilience of Bali’s tourism sector and its ability to compete on the world stage. It is not just a travel destination but also a place where heritage and modernity coexist harmoniously.

Other cities joining the list include Tokyo, Bangkok, Jaipur, Hoi An, Kyoto, and Seoul, yet Ubud’s name shines uniquely for representing Indonesia. Its presence is both a source of pride and an invitation to preserve the island’s cultural identity.

This accolade offers momentum for Ubud to continue nurturing its traditions, environment, and community spirit. As travelers look for meaningful journeys, Ubud stands as a reminder that cultural authenticity and heartfelt hospitality will always leave a lasting impression.
